Very good, Rick. You've obviously searched the darkest depths of your soul, weighed up all the issues and somehow managed to convince your own conscience that violence is in the fact the answer. Not only that, but you feel justified in ridiculing anyone who speaks out against such a dumbass mindset. I commend you and your lack of vision. Killing is murder. Soldiers are killers. Your objection is semantic at best. There is nothing noble about learning cruelty.

Again you hit nails on their heads with unerring accuracy Harry! I can't do anything but agree with everything you say. I notice some people have picked you up for using a Facebook comment about the tanker drivers but I have heard the same sort of argument in works canteens and bus queues, and versions of it in the newspapers and on TV. The point you make (possibly not strongly enough!!) about what people have to thank the unions for is well worth making and could be an article in it's own right. The fact that only about 30% of the workforce are full Union members is something to really worry those of us who have been around the workplace for more than a decade or so!!
The point you make that there is now possibly a majority of people who are no longer fooled by the protestations, by this (and an earlier) government, that this war is in ANY way justified, is well made.
It says something to me about how the toffs that run this country view the lads it sends off to fight it's dirty idiotic little war that a charity has to be set up to help with their care when what's left of them returns home.

Totally agree. Like I've always said, people become soldiers through choice, that doesn't make anyone a hero automatically. I worked in an office, I filed loads more paper than anyone and I wasn't a hero.
What really gets me is the footballer / soldier income comparison. If you want to earn what a footballer earns, become a footballer. And since when did everything boil down to money anyway? What ever happened to job satisfaction? I don't know anyone who joined the army because they HAD to... they did it because they wanted to. Which meant that they accepted the pay, the kit, the job, the everything. That doesn't make you a hero, it makes you employed.

A very accurate article all should be required to read before blindly supporting the troops your government sent abroad to fight corporate wars of financial opportunity.

I think you'll find that fuel does get transported by rail(2000 tonnes at a time) so your argument is frankly ridiculous. Unfortunatey, not many garages have a railway siding next door so a 35 or 44 tonne road tanker is the only option! Terribly sorry about that!!

Almost a good point made, except I can't remember seeing many rails running into petrol stations, haulage company yards etc etc. FYI, we even deliver to the rail companies by road tanker as it's more cost efficient!

Bayan, if tanker transport is in decline I'm very intrigued to know how your gonna be filling your car up in future???

The blockades in 2000 brought this country to a stand still, pumps dry, shops empty, public services, buses, taxi's, ferries, planes......... I have lot of admiration for the armed forces and believe that they should be brought home, they are good at their job just like tanker drivers are good at theirs, how often do you hear of a serious tanker accident???

Trucks keep this country going, without tankers on the road driven by well trained and experienced drivers how will you do your shopping and what will you buy when you eventually get there?

Quote from a recent member of the armed forces dragged into the tanker dispute by the government: I passed my test in 2006 and havn't driven since coz I've been working in stores.

Your happy to have this person hauling 38000 litres of high flammable liquid round britains roads whilst you or your family are driving?
