Emms walks

2nd October 2011

With immediate effect, Toxic Federation and front man, Mitch Emms, have parted company.

While the news will undoubtedly come as a shock to the band’s fans, the development has about it a certain inevitability as Emms’ increasing unhappiness has become ever more apparent.

While rueful chuckles and ironic smiles might be provoked, the decision of Emms to walk has, at its core, that most perennial of rock ‘n roll break-ups: musical differences.

The band are determined to further develop their distinctive sound and music, which is firmly rooted in the great tradition of 70s and 80s melodic hard rock and metal, while Emms has made no secret of his preference for more alternative-based 90s material.

While that juxtaposition and creative tension was responsible for producing two killer albums, 2010’s ‘As One’ and new album ‘Distance’ (to be released on October 17th), ultimately a long-term harmonious working relationship was unsustainable with two parties working towards two entirely different musical goals .

Emms himself said, “I have realised that I would rather be who I am and fail, than try to be someone I’m not and be a success”

The band’s manager, Beth Windsor, commented, “While this is clearly not a decision Mitch has made on the spur of the moment and while one might wonder at the timing of his resignation, given his former band mates are about to embark on a nationwide promo campaign for the new album, ultimately, it’s a relief.

Mitch needs to follow his own path and we both understand that and wish him well. For our part, we can now move on and find a singer who has the commitment, personality and shared vision that the band need to achieve the success for which they’ve worked so hard.

Both our distribution partner and our booking agency have pledged their continued support and feel this is but a blip in the career of a band who industry insiders continue to see as hot property and serious contenders”

In terms of forthcoming shows, the band is hoping to meet all commitments but, obviously, that will depend on finding the right man in time.

Several candidates are being considered but Beth stressed, “We have made no choices yet and will not rush such a crucial decision. Interested parties who believe they have what it takes to front Toxic Federation are cordially invited to express their interest”

Such parties should send their details, in the first instance, to

i agree yes that musical differences were part of mitchels decision, however i think it should be noted that it was not just this difference and that it was only a small part, mitchel also had other reasons of his own for leaving tf, and i would also like to say that we all wish tf all the best in the future and will be watching :)

I’m well aware, mate, of some of the other contributory factors in Mitch’s decision but for his sake (and another party) it was best that the focus stayed on the musical differences rather than degenerating into mud slinging, I’m sure you’ll agree.
